WTF: Trash Bin tryst goes bad

admin | September 21, 2009 | 3:36 pm

dumpster-diveWitchita, KAN - A tender moment in a trash bin went all wrong for a couple who found themselves being held up at knifepoint.

Police say two 44-year-olds had climbed into a dumpster to be alone just after 6p/m. saturday when two men interrupted them and demanded their belongings.  Officers said the man and woman were engaged in “an intimate moment” when they were robbed of their shoes, jewelry, and the man’s wallet.

Police say one of the robbers was a 64-year-old man who egged his 59-year-old companion on during the robbery.

The suspects were found a short time later and the stolen property was returned.

Sweet Tea

admin | September 17, 2009 | 2:54 pm

Sweet TeaI’ve kinda been having a time crisis or ‘crisis of time’ depending on how you want to look at it in adding fresh content to this site as of late.  Some of my recent Podcast appointments have fallen through due to unforeseen circumstances, but I hope to get some new episodes up soon enough.

So what better way to put a little break in this apparent lull by introducing a new drink I discovered a few months ago and a few recipes I found.  To be honest, as of this writing I haven’t actually tried the included recipes, but more or less have just drank this yummy libation on ice all by it’s southern inspired self.

First of all, I love ice tea.  That is natural ice tea, fresh brewed tea leaves and cold filtered water over a tall glass of ice.  Add a sprig of mint, maybe a slice of lime, orange, or traditional lemon.  I like black Ceylon tea, lemon grass tea, green tea, and a few other distinct concoctions like an Arnold Palmer (1/2 tea, 1/2 lemonade), or Arabic tea (very, very sweet tea with bulk Turkish tea leaves and diced mint).

When I was in high school and even college, I went through a Long Island Ice Tea phase as well (1p gin, 1p tequila, 1p rum, 1p whisky, splash of coke and a bit of sweet & sour liqueur).  I used to drink the pre-mixed Club mixes (not the best), but mostly make my own and loved them.

Anyway, not to long ago at my local BevMo I found this Seagram’s flavored Sweet Tea Vodka drink.  It looked interesting, and it was cheap, so I figured “Why not?”  Needless to say I was hooked my very first sip.  It tastes exactly how you would think a pitcher of down south sweet tea should taste, with of course a little kick.  Not the kinda vodka kick that burns your pipes, but on the contrary it is very smooth and mellow and can sneak up on you quick.  Not to brag or boast, but I’ve been known to polish off a 750ml bottle in a night or over two, and I’ve failed to get a hangover on it so far….I’m sure that’s just luck, and now that I say it, the next time I probably will hurt.

I’ve been a one man Seagram’s spokesperson for this drink and I found that you eaiterh really like it, or it isn’t your cup of tea.  Fortunately, most people like it (especially the gals) and the ones who don’t tend to have an aversion to really sweet things anyway.

Seagram’s brand is actually made by White Rock Distillery based in South Carolina.  I think it pairs really well with southern food, including of course BBQ, and is a very refreshing drink on ice.  But as promised here are a few Sweet Tea recipe’s:

Sweet Tea Lemonade

- 1.5 part Seagram’s Sweet Tea Vodka in high ball glass.

- Fill remainder with Crystal Lite lemonade mix (or for variety, instead of lemonade mix, try cherry limeade or peach mix)

Sweet Tea and Mint

1.5 part Seagram Sweet Tea Vodka in high ball glass

.5 part Peppermint Schnapps

1 part sour mix

- Fill remainder of glass with Sprite

Long Island Sweet Tea

- 1 part Seagram’s Sweet Tea in high ball glass.

- .5 parts: light rum, silver tequila, gin, and Triple Sec

- Splash of ‘Rose of lime’

Still here…just a bit slow

admin | September 9, 2009 | 12:34 pm

zune_hd_imageIt’s been over a week or so since my last post and I really don’t have much of an excuse other that to say I’ve been a bit tired and not feeling all so great as of late.  Not because I have the beginnings of the swine flu, but the recent heatwave, 3 day vacation, heavy work load as of late (especially the last few days), and restless sleeping patterns have given me both a mild headache and an overall sluggish or out-of-sync feeling.

I’ve been really trying and watch my spending as of late too.  I’ve been brown bagging my lunch a bit more lately and looking for discounted grocery items and not spending on an over-indulgence of toys (well, next weeks Zune’s release will be an exception).  Yeah, I’m not buying any new Xbox games, collectible action figures, or any other “wants’.  With my mom’s birthday later this month, my anniversary next, and the holidays almost here, I need to be really conscious of my spending habits and realize I can’t buy everything I’d like.

However, when it comes to listening to podcasts on my commute to and from work, and the really ‘boring’ moments I have at work (in tuning out my co-workers, and a lot of other minutiae here) I am really looking forward to getting a new MP3 player.  Currently I use my Sony PSP and it is kind of bulky and awkward to carry around.  It should also work with my Ford’s Sync technology as well where I can put on my huge collection of MP3 songs and just plug in my car and activate with my voice.  I’m torn between the two models: 16GB and 32GB, mostly because of the $50 and will I ever use a full 32GB.  I have an older Creative Rio 4GB player and I don’t even have that one full, but I have a lot more music today, plus Zune would allow me to download some video pod-casts as well which of course take up more storage.

The one recent diversion I have had as of late though is I am getting into model trains.  Due to space limitations at my house (and again how much money I am investing) I’m gearing myself to N scale, or 160th real scale.  I’m currently building a beginner N scale house circa 1930-something and I’m really enjoying it.  So much so that I am currently looking at other models to build as well and am now even think of starting yet another website to chronicle this new independent hobby of mine.

I know, right in the midst of me stating I want to save money and watching my spending habits, I’m already looking at new ways to spend it.  Sigh.

Other than Sunday where I had some libations with my neighbors, I really haven’t been feeling well to even want to drink.  Not sure why, but the thought of having a beer right now just make me think ‘blaoting’.  I really just want to relax and lie down for a bit and not do anything in all honesty.

So where does that leave me on pod-casting?  Eh, well….I’ve been thinking of recording my grandfather and my father in the coming weeks.  They actually have some great stories to tell, and I still have some friends who I need to sit down and schedule a session with, but it’s actually harder than it seems.  How does Adam Corolla get his guests to commit to a regular schedule?

I am….Blackman!

admin | September 2, 2009 | 9:38 am

Holy Kool-Aid BlackmanIt is widely well known and accepted that billionaire Bruce Wayne began his ascent to the mantle of Gotham City’s vigilante and caped crusader of justice as Batman after the tragic murder of his parents when he was but a youth.

However, very little is know about Chatsworth, CA’s. own crusader of the night, Clarence Washington.

While enrolled in the liberal studies certificate program at the local community college, part time student and current Papa John’s delivery man, Clarence Washington takes matters into his own hands at night.

Donning his very own stealth suit (Kobe Bryant’s jersey painted black), and armed with the latest in Radio Shack technology, ‘Blackman’ carves out his own brand of sweet Chuck-D inspired justice nightly (except when there is a delivery to be made or new episodes of Run’s House) and helps keep graffiti artists and unsolicited window washers at bay.

You’re lucky if you can catch a glimpse of this super-tricked out VW and the man behind the crinkled do-it-yourself tint.  However, ken eyed and vigilant observers may catch a glimpse of the Blackmobile frequently parked outside his rented room of his mom’s house in the 300 block of town.
