Welcome!
admin | June 11, 2009 | 2:46 pmWell, here it is. My first post for Cocktail Confessions here on GoDaddy.
A lot of thought, (and a few libations), went into the initial brainstorming of this site, and in all honesty, I’m really not that much closer to a definitive direction for this blog now than I was a few months back. I wanted to create a site that will eventually feature content podcasting of my own creation, that can not only be downloaded right here, but also featured on Apple’s iTunes and Microsoft’s Zune Marketplace. I’ve become a big fan of this developing technology much more over terrestrial and satellite radio as of late.
However, one of the hardest things thus far in the creation of this site is what exactly I wanted this blog to be about. My friend Brian over at Brians4x4Adventures.com has a very niche subject that is near and dear to his heart….offroading with his FJ club. His site reflects the experiences on the various meets and trip already done and future outings currently in the planning stages. I’ve already heard some of his great stories and I believe there is an audience out there just as interested in them as I am. Brian also plans on doing reviews of camp grounds, trails, and the various greasy spoons he’ll sample along the way and follow those up with both pictures and podcasts of his own.
But therein lies my problem…I enjoy too many things to just nail down to one subject or genre. I have a vast variety of interests and flit between different hobbies all the time. I’m not exactly into ‘one main thing’, although I do enjoy all things science fiction.
As my ‘About’ page outlines, I enjoy brewing my own beer, cooking on the grill with friends, PC and video gaming, and both digital and traditional SLR photography. I collect comic books, action figures, and martini glasses. I can talk about the TV show Dallas for days, wax poetic on contemporary politics, enjoy blended whisky, and have an unhealthy fascination with all things telephony. I like tinkering with PC’s, reading novels, reviewing movies, creating organic dog treats, road trips to the southwest, lifting weights, club music and much, much more. And of course, I enjoy a good cold beer or complex cocktail along with the company of my closest friends.
So see? What could I possibly narrow this site down to when I’m invested in so many different things? Well, I think I came up with a compromise, at least for myself. This site and the forthcoming podcasts will be based on everything a guy likes. Think of it as a ‘variety’ show for the average Joe. Perhaps a poor man’s Adam Corolla. I suspect that future podcasts and entries may be devoted to such things as recent movies, comic plot lines, politics, BBQ recipes, or funny stories my friends and I will share.
However, I do want to tie all these broad topics into one common plot device….and what better way to talk all things ‘guy’ than by introducing a drink at the beginning of each episode? We’ll try micro-brews, traditional favorites, and self-made concoctions during each podcast and just maybe we’ll get a little squirrely by the end.
Hopefully, as each new podcast is recorded and uploaded for your pleasure, I’ll have associated show notes posted and relevant links and pictures posted as well.
Right now there is no set structure. I suppose as time moves forward I may find my stride, my direction, my ‘schtick’, but for the foreseeable future expect to see various tweaks and changes as I learn and experiment more with this site and format. If you ever feel a post or podcast is boring or great let me know via the email link on the main page. Or, if you have any suggestions for a future topic you’d like to hear my take or thoughts on, please drop me a note. You may not always agree with what I have to say, but at the end of the day, it’s just an everything show and we can still have a drink together.

Well said Jay! I can’t wait to watch your site come into its own and to see your progression. I can’t help but wonder what the first installment will have in store…
